The National Science Foundation awarded the University of Hawai‘i a major cyberinfrastructure grant, and its president has been been tapped for national information technology roles.
The five-year, $6.5 million NSF grant is intended to improve cyberinfrastructure in the Pacific. With partners from Chaminade University, University of Guam, and Texas Advanced Computing Center, UH will train more than 200 students to use advanced technologies in research projects and provide workshops to increse cyber awareness and skills across various fields. University President David Lassner, who previously served as the universityʻs chief of information technology, has been named to the 16-member NSF Advisory Committee on Cyberinfrastructure. He earlier rejoined the Board of Trustees of Internet2, the U.S. community of education, research, government, corporate, and cultural organizations working to provide a secure high-speed network, cloud solutions, and services tailored for research and education.
