Drs. McManus and Steward are professors in the Department of Oceanography, School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
A physical oceanographer. Dr. McManus serves as Director of the Uehiro Center for the Advancement of Oceanography and leads the Coastal Physical Oceanography and Marine Ecosystems group, which investigates coastal ocean dynamics and their influence on marine ecosystems. She was also recently appointed to the inaugural role of Chief Academic Advancement Officer at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
A biological oceanographer, Dr. Steward is a Principal Investigator of the Steward Lab within the University of Hawaiʻi’s Center for Microbial Oceanography: Research and Education (C-MORE). His research focuses on marine viruses and the ecology of ocean microbes. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to education, he received the University of Hawaiʻi Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching in 2020.
Both have been advisors to Honolulu ARCS Scholars.
